Let’s dive into the recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 sleeve (about 40) saltine crackers
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions:

Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Line a 9×13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, making sure to leave some overhang for easy removal later.

Arrange Saltine Crackers:

Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure to cover the entire surface. You may need to break some crackers to fit them snugly.

Make the Toffee:

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

Once melted, add the brown sugar and stir until well combined.

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly, and let it boil for about 3-5 minutes, or until it thickens and becomes caramel-like in color.

Pour Over Crackers:

Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula to coat all the crackers.

Bake in the Oven:

Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the toffee layer is bubbling and golden brown.

Add Chocolate:

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee layer.

Let the chocolate chips sit for a minute or two to soften, then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.

Optional Toppings:

If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts over the melted chocolate layer for added flavor and texture.

Chill and Set:

Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator and chill the saltine toffee for at least 1-2 hours, or until the chocolate is completely set and firm.

Break into Pieces:

Once chilled, use the overhanging parchment paper or foil to lift the saltine toffee out of the baking sheet.

Peel away the paper or foil and break the toffee into pieces of your desired size.

Serve and Enjoy:

Arrange the saltine toffee pieces on a serving platter and enjoy!

Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
