5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Reported

The six-mile-deep natural disaster occurred in Linxia Chengguanzhen, Gansu Sheng. Ten minutes later, 4.6-magnitude aftershocks reached six miles deep.

Six people first reported feeling the earthquake. No new details were released Monday.

Tsunami warnings were withdrawn after the tremors. The U.S. Geological Survey reported four 6.0-magnitude aftershocks after the 7.6-magnitude original tremor.

December 7 brought a 7.1-magnitude earthquake to Vanuatu in the South Pacific. The natural disaster was 76 miles south of Isangel, Tanna, and 30 miles deep.

The USGS indicated a tsunami was unlikely and that deaths and economic losses were minimal.
