Thank You to Raymond’s Great Volunteers -   9-22-18

Having been born in Raymond, and lived here for most of my 83 years, I have come to appreciate the volunteers that make this such a wonderful community. It wasn’t always thus. Historically, Raymond was a forward-thinking town, but somewhere in the sixties or thereabouts, it seemed to fall under a cloud. Difficult to explain, but there was little spirit here.

Then, I could have been faulted as seeing some new folks who were elected and appointed to local offices as overbearing and arrogant and sometimes they were. I felt that they came to a small town to be a “big shot” for a few years, retire and move on to Florida, leaving us with bigger tax bills and regulations.

But my view has changed. After observing the newer folks and their volunteering efforts alongside people whose families have been here for generations I am happy to see my old hometown a place to be proud of.

My gratitude goes out to all the volunteers who made the recent celebration,on Saturday, Sept. 8, including the Om-a-can-can-oe triathlon, the American Legion car show and the Historical Society chili cook off, such a fun and enjoyable day for even old curmudgeons like me.

This is a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers and for all you do for our town.
