***(2) Regarding how para-educators are assigned: In our District all but a few are employed to support students who have educational disabilities. In accord with Federal and State laws. IEP teams determine the types of supports that students with educational disabilities need in order to access and benefit from the general curriculum. Sometimes the support of a paraprofessional is determined to be necessary. In that case, the District has an obligation to provide the paraprofessional support.

We have only five para-educators who are not assigned to support special education students: Two provide academic support at Raymond High School. Also, each school currently has a licensed nursing assistant who is considered a paraprofessional.

***(3) In the Raymond High School there can be 30 different rooms, periodically throughout the day, empty for one period a day. Teachers are in those classrooms, but it is their prep time, so they are not providing direct instruction. Technically, the room isn't empty, but there are no students in there at that time.
