Raymond IHGMS Girls Soccer Team Tops Weare 8-1
Submitted by Sam Hendricks    10-7-15

The Middle School Girls Soccer team played host to the Weare Wildcats on a gorgeous afternoon for soccer at sun-drenched Holt Field.  Coach Papamichael reported that the team had a very good practice the previous day, working on keeping possession of the ball and playing team defense and it showed in the team’s performance against Weare.

Anya Cunningham opened the scoring with two early goals including one off a well-place Hannah Reardon corner kick.  Hannah also assisted on a Clare Cole goal in the first half and then scored one herself off a beautiful free kick by Erin Roderick.  Weare tried their best to counter but their advances were thwarted time and time again by the stingy Raymond defenders.  At halftime, the score was Raymond 4, Weare 0.

Any thoughts of a Weare comeback were quickly dashed as Madilyn Robinson roofed a left-footer off a pretty through pass from Kathryn Lacasse.  That duo combined a short time later with Madilyn cleaning up a rebound of a Lacasse shot.  Mhrissa Emery would later set up Kathryn for a goal of her own, driven home from the 18.  Anya completed her hat trick by pouncing on a rebound of a Jeni Plender shot.  Final score 8-1, Raymond.

Asked about the keys to the victory, Elizabeth Pitts remarked that the team passed and possessed the ball much better than they had in the previous game and “we had much better communication.”  Madilyn Robinson added that “we stayed behind the ball and played much better defense today.”  All of this resulted in an endless and varied array of scoring opportunities.  The Lady Rams would not have long to relish this victory with Sanborn coming to town the next day.
