Gove Middle School Boys A Basketball Wins Season Opener
Submitted by Bob Roper 11-28-16

The Iber Holmes Gove Middle School Boys A Basketball team won their first game of the season 44-27 when they visited Weare Middle School on Monday, Nov. 21.

First game jitters were evident at the beginning as IHGMS led by only one point at the end of the first quarter, with a score of 9-8. The boys began implementing the game plan they had worked hard to learn during the five practices leading up to the first game. They opened it up and led 22 --12 at the half.

They outscored Weare 16-6 in the third quarter and were never threatened, and finished strong.

High scorer Johan Rosario (eighth grade) had 10 points, followed by Kevin "KC" Bostaph (eighth grade) and Tyler Bussey (eighth grade) with eight apiece. David Mayo (eighth grade) came off the bench and dropped in six points. Eighth graders Kaden Brackett and twins Josh and Nate Krafton, along with Tyler Christopher, contributed a total of 12 points. Eighth grader Brycen Braley and seventh grader James Dross shared point guard duties and directed the offense.

Eighth grader Colby Sharpe was a rebounding demon and defensive whiz and sixth grader Colin Pilling proved he could play with the "big boys." The team is coached by Bob Roper and managed by Riley Cheever (seventh grade).

IHGMS next plays away at Cawley on Thursday, Dec. 1, with its first home game on Monday, Dec. 5 against Hampstead at 3:30 p.m.
