HIGHWAY DIVISION TRAVEL ADVISORY
UPDATE ON ONWAY LAKE ROAD CULVERT REPLACMENT PROJECT
In November of 2016, the Onway Lake Culvert Replacement Project encountered water control and soil stability issues leading to the need to install steel sheet piles in order to safely progress the work which translated to delay. Further delay occurred in the installation of sheeting as a result of various obstructions that were encountered.
The sum total of these delays resulted in requests for additional money to cover the added costs associated with working in winter conditions. To manage costs, reduce the risk of an inferior finished product and upon the advice of the consulting engineers and counsel, we have directed the Contractor of the Onway Lake Road Culvert Replacement project to suspend operations for the winter.
We do understand the significant inconvenience for all area residents that travel this road out to Scribner Road on a regular basis. Please know that the Board of Selectman and this Department of Public Works are committed to get this project underway and fully completed as soon as reasonably possible.
The remaining construction effort should be completed within a 9 to 12 week window once it restarts. A new construction schedule will be posted on line and circulated to you once we reconvene discussions with the Contractor in March of 2017.
Thank you for your continued patience with this project.
