Fun in the Sun Summer Programs for Kids
By Penny Williams 6-17-20

The Summer program this year in Hampstead is called Fun in the Sun. Recreation Director Angie Ingraham said this is to avoid confusion with the Summer Recreation Program as this will be very different.  The usual Summer Recreation Program that has been held at the Hampstead Central School for the younger children and the older children at the Memorial Gym is not happening this summer,

Instead this summer will look different, Ingraham said, "We are naming the program Fun in the Sun and it will take place from 8 a.m. until noon at the Town Hall field.
We will do games and  crafts in small groups. It will be all outside and the children will rotate to new stations, Crafts, games, basketball shooting, tennis, and we are adding some painted items between the basketball and tennis courts like obstacle courses and fun pavement games.  On rainy days we will not be able to run the program since being inside is too difficult with the restrictions."

*This program is for children that are going into grade 3 to grade 8 and live in Hampstead and attend the Hampstead School System.

*The program will start on June 29 and run for 5 weeks until July 31.

*There will be 50 children  accepted into the program. And it will be the first 50 children that sign up on the Google document.  Due limited spots open for Fun in the Sun, it is expected children who sign up will attend regularly.

*If you sign up you are expected to send your child daily/weekly.

*Program hours will be from 8 a.m. until noon.

*The program will be run at the Town Hall field and will be using the tennis /basketball courts behind the Memorial Gym.  There will be NO inside activities.

*If the weather is inclement there will not have a program that day.

*Person(s) with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 must stay out of day camp until symptom-based criteria are met for discontinuation of isolation:

*Children cannot travel Internationally (outside the U.S.),  by cruise ship, or domestically (within the U.S.) outside of  NH, VT, or ME on public transportation (e.g., bus, train, plane, etc.) and be in the program.

*All children should apply sunscreen before they come to the program.  Parents are asked to please send spray with your child if you want it to be reapplied at snack time.  The counselors will only spray and will not apply rub on sunscreen. There will be an outside sink for hand washing.

*There  will be a tent for crafts and other activities.

*There will be no lunch-time care or counselor transportation information provided by the Hampstead Recreation Department this year.

*We will have a hand washing station outside along with hand sanitizer.  All counselors will carry hand sanitizers with them.

*There is a onetime $15.00 Supply Cost for each child attending.  It will include art supplies (due to COVID-19 all child need their own supplies)  and a mask for your child.

*Parents cannot get out of the cars.  It will be a drive up drop off only.

*Every child needs to have their temperature taken before they get out of the car. If their temperature is over 100.4 they cannot attend the Fun in the Sun Program.

*Parents will need to fill out a survey every day:

    a. Do  you have any symptoms of COVID-19?

*The children will be placed in groups and stay in those groups the whole week.

*They will be assigned counselors to be with them. They will travel in these groups to all activities.  We will do our best to put friends and age groups together.

*They have a snack during their time at the program.  They will sit with their group only not with other children.  They cannot share food.  Please make sure you send them with a water bottle or two.

*For pick-up children will wash their hands before entering their car.

You would need to sign up for this program so we know your email and street address. We need to know the street address to drop off prizes if you win a contest or challenge. Any age can be in the virtual program but must live in either East Hampstead or Hampstead.
