Chester Library Seeks to Form Foundation to Renovate Building
By Leslie O’Donnell   4-24-17

Chester residents are invited to attend a meeting set for 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 8 at Stevens Hall to discuss formation of a foundation for the Chester Public Library.

Diane Arrato Gavrish, assistant director of the library, said the May 8 kick-off event will display plans for proposed renovations to the historic library building and discuss formation of a foundation to raise money for the work.

She said the Trustees of the Chester Public Library hope to form a foundation to raise and accept money for the project. The Trustees are elected officials responsible for the governing of library services and finances.

Arrato Gavrish emphasized that no structural changes are proposed – the renovations would instead be geared to making better use of the current facility.

“The intention is to have the foundation as the fund-raising arm of the library,” she explained.

Renovation plans have been drawn up by Moriah Arrato Gavrish, an architect and space planner, and have been accepted by the Trustees. Under the proposed concept, the children’s room would be moved from upstairs to the main floor, and would feature a story hour and craft area. Fiction would be moved upstairs.

In addition, the current entrance would be made into a meeting room area, and would allow use of the meeting room after the normal closing time for the library. The library entrance would shift to the current side porch.

The May 8 meeting will feature discussion of the proposed renovations and foundation establishment. Plans for the renovations will be available.
