By Penny Williams 4-27-15

For the second season in a row, Candia’s new farm stand - The Farmer's Wife – will be offering customers a wide range of produce and other products, and will add musical events this summer.

Amy Sandler Komisarek is the owner of The Farmer's Wife at 20 Main St. She said she plans to open for her second season on Friday, May 1. The farm stand is local and community based, and Komisarek has a passion for what she is doing.

She said she takes pride in providing locally grown vegetables and meats. Komisarek noted that she cooks and bakes with foods that not only nourish the body but feed the soul, and considers the simplest of seasonally produced meals to be the best she can provide her loved ones.

Komisarek also sees the farm stand as in keeping with what has made New Hampshire special, its rural and agricultural landscape. “Supporting your farmer today ensures there will be local farms in the future for our children and their children and so on," she said.

Asked what motivated her to open a farm stand she said, "I wanted to bring healthier and local food options to our community. We primarily source our products from New Hampshire. Our practice is to source the highest quality products as close to home as possible. When we can’t source from New Hampshire, we look to our neighboring states."

The Farmer's Wife will be offering homemade bakery products, nuts, candy, maple products, cocoa mix, soups, pickles, frozen dinners, organic pasta, fresh and frozen meat, kielbasa, dairy products and fresh produce.

She said her most popular produce items last year were tomatoes, corn, cucumbers and summer squash. Pickles and salsa were her most popular processed produce, and meat and milk products were in strong demand.

"The bakery items are extremely popular; more so than I anticipated," she said.

She also stocks gluten free products. "My own health concerns with gluten as well as the growth of this market segment prompted having these offerings," she said.

While most customers are local, others have come from a wide area as her stand's reputation has grown.

Komisarek said she enjoys operating the farm stand, and while she finds it to be a lot of work, she considers it worthwhile. "One benefit has been the increased social connection within our community," she said.

As part of that connection, this year the farm stand will offer a summer concert series that will feature local talent including bluegrass, country, rock ‘n roll and the blues. “As part of these events we will be offering locally prepared homemade meals,” she said, noting the concerts will be on the second and last Sundays of each month from May 31 through Sept. 13.”

The farm stand will hold its grand opening for its second season on Saturday, May 16, with vendors providing samples as well as guest lecturers and local musician Nicole Knox Murphy.

And on Saturday, Aug. 1, she will host the first Full Blue Moon Luau & Dance, with a Hawaiian-style pig roast and dancing under the full moon.
