BG Makeovers Offers Oasis for Body, Mind and Spirit
By Penny Williams   4-25-14

Brenda Gilbert’s B G  Makeovers offers an oasis of peacefulness and transformation, with client privacy and personal skin care the primary focus.

Clients are served on an appointment only basis, making it possible for Gilbert to devote all of her attention to the client. The spa is designed for the client’s peace of mind and relaxation, where body, mind and spirit can be pampered and rejuvenated.

“I do this work because I love it, and I am here in Raymond because this is where I live,” Gilbert said. She will have been at her current location, 39 Freetown Road (Route 102), for four years next month.

Spa Room

Gilbert offers advanced corrective and therapeutic skin services designed to address anti-aging and skin conditions, as well as more traditional spa treatments geared to relax and rejuvenate clients. Her specialty services include microdermabrasion, chemical peels and microneedling. Gilbert also offers massages, facials, tanning and body scrubs.

In addition to her services, she offers bridal accessories, jewelry, bath and body products and other retail items, all focused on making the clients feel good about themselves and how they look.

Gilbert said her services are designed to provide clients with an opportunity to relax and renew their mind, body and spirit while undergoing corrective skin care or traditional spa treatments. She provides wellness and nutritional counseling and detox products and invites Dr. Francis Lamy Jr. of Nutfield Associates in Londonderry to join her every few months to provide Botox treatments.

“Everything I do is geared to working inside and outside, focusing on treating aging and skin, and while we can’t reverse aging, we can treat the client’s skin and how they feel about themselves,” she said. “The whole goal is to help my clients look as young as they feel. The fact that my services are provided on an appointment-only basis and I am always ready when the client arrives, and am focused solely on them is important, as is the privacy accorded by not having anyone else waiting or coming in. This is particularly true for some of my male clients who like not running into anyone else.

“The idea is to ensure that each client feels that the entire spa space is exclusively theirs,” she said. “Coming to my spa is not a sales experience, it is a private, quiet, relaxing experience.”

Gilbert’s customers come from as far away as Hampton, Dover, Portsmouth, Concord and Salem, and her spa is close to Route 101 at Exit 5, making it quite accessible.

It takes experience to provide the services Gilbert offers her clients. She started out working at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic for six dermatologists, where she discovered her interest in skin care. She then went to work for Salon 27 as an esthetician before opening her own spa.

Gilbert is proud to be part of the Raymond community, and giving back to that community is important to her. She said when she learned Medicare charged elderly folks $35 to have their nails cut, she contacted the Ray-Fre Senior Center in Raymond and offered her services for a minimal amount. She plans to provide those same services at an assisted living location.

She worked on the Raymond Fall Festival, hosted Cookies For Santa two years in a row and promotes local businesses whenever she can, including in-home businesses.

Prom Dresses for the Girls

“I started a new endeavor that I call ‘Make Her Dreams Come True,’” Gilbert said. “I asked people to contribute prom dresses that I made available to young ladies on Thursday April 24th from 6 to 7 p.m., needing a little help in getting dresses for their prom. The dresses were available to Raymond young womenfrom 7 to 8 p.m., and what was left was available to young ladies from outside of Raymond. The prom dresses were free.

Even More Dresses

“This was the first year doing this but I hope to make it an annual event,” she added. “The success depended on the generosity of others getting the prom dresses to me for the girls to choose from.”
